What is a standard porta potty?
A standard porta potty is a single-occupant portable toilet with a non-flushing seat over a 60-gallon holding tank, a urinal, a toilet-paper holder, a hand sanitizer dispenser, a translucent roof for daylight and a spring-loaded door with an occupied indicator. Ours are PolyJohn PJN3 units, 43.5 inches wide, which fit through a standard 48-inch gate.

Source: PolyJohn PJN3 product page. The gate question: a 43.5-inch unit needs a 48-inch opening plus a straight path, because the driver walks it in on a hand truck.
Will it fit through my gate?
The unit is 43.5 inches wide and 47 inches deep. A 4-foot gate works with a straight run; a 36-inch gate does not. If the only route is through a house or a narrow side yard, the driver places the unit at the front of the property and you can request a move later with a truck-accessible path.

When is the standard unit the right choice, and when is it the wrong one?
The standard unit is right for construction crews, home projects, septic and water-line emergencies, campgrounds and casual parties where the goal is a clean toilet at the lowest cost. The standard unit is the wrong choice for weddings and showers, where guests expect a flush and a sink, and for anyone using a wheelchair or walker, who needs the 62-inch accessible unit.

Questions renters ask about this unit
Does the standard porta potty have a sink or just hand sanitizer?
The standard unit has a hand sanitizer dispenser mounted inside the door and no sink. If guests will eat, or the unit is on a jobsite covered by OSHA handwashing rules, add a freestanding handwashing station for $147 per event or $125 per 28 days, or step up to the deluxe unit with an interior sink.
How many people can use one standard unit before it needs to be pumped?
About 200 uses fill the 60-gallon tank to the service line. For a 4-hour party that is roughly 50 guests; for a jobsite that is about 10 workers over a 40-hour week, which is why weekly service is built into monthly rentals. Larger crews need a second unit or a second weekly visit.
Can I keep the unit for a week on the event rate?
The event rate covers up to 4 days on site. Five to 14 days is priced as a short-term rental, and anything longer is a 28-day cycle, which is often cheaper than two event rentals. Tell us the real dates and we will quote the lower of the two.
Do you deliver standard units on Saturday?
We deliver Monday through Saturday. For a Saturday event we deliver Friday so the unit is ready first thing and so a late truck cannot affect your party; pickup is Monday. Saturday delivery is available when you need it, but Saturday pickup is not.
Can the unit sit on grass or does it need pavement?
Firm, level grass is fine; so are gravel, pavement and compacted dirt. We avoid soft lawns after heavy rain, slopes over 5% and septic drain fields. In winter the unit should sit where a plow will not hit it and where the service truck can get within 25 feet.
What color are the units?
Most of our standard units are blue or gray. We do not guarantee a color, but if you tell us at booking we will send the color you prefer when one is in the yard.
Does the standard unit lock?
The door locks from the inside and shows an occupied indicator. There is a hasp on the outside so you can add your own padlock overnight on a public site; we can supply a padlock on request for park and street placements.
